Thank you for checking homework and planners. We are now in full swing and working hard in and out of school. Please continue to have our students work on paper assignments and then online. If you are having a problem with an online programs- please let me know and I will try to help. Planners signed daily. Book Bag Project: Orange bag is due TOMORROW. Please help your child organize the bag with project (name on it) and book. Students will get a new one on Sept 24 and it will be due on Oct. 3 (so books are returned before Fall Break). Projects are expected to be completed on another sheet of paper, not on the 1/2 sheet that is included in the book bag. We have started on our Unit 1 week 5 test today (Thursday). We read the story once with our partner. Students went back to their seat and were so focused on reading the questions, highlighting and circling inflectional endings. We reviewed how we need to check our answers- a hard 2nd grade concept/ even life. We will continue and finish the 2nd story tomorrow along with the written response, Q21. Math Module 2 and Reading U1W5 Test tomorrow, Friday. Students should have given you a test check-in print out on Wednesday night. I do not need it back but it does give you information about your child's test and activities/suggestions to do at home. Please share with me your practice sheet if you do problems with your child. I will not be sending tests home but if you would like to look at math or reading, please schedule a time to meet with me. We started STEAM with Ms. Ranken. Ask your child "What did you learn?" Hopefully they can share that we are looking at plants, flowers, pollinator. Today, students got to gather data in a chart surveying our school campus- observing plants to see pollinators and flowers. Because of Actor's Toolbox- Sean Layne PD that I took this past Saturday, we have been working on calm, balance, and focus through Actor'sToolbox. We have been making our body contract- reminding ourselves to focus and control our body through the day, holding a concentration circle with a "jewel" to practice focusing- we are on level 2- teacher walking around :). Lastly, we have practiced cooperation challenge to practice skills to work with classmates. Sean Layne will also be here for PARENTS at Literacy Night on Sept. 25 at 5:30. Please see attached flyer. Picture Taking is on September 25th at 8:35. Please fill out information and bring picture envelope by Tuesday. I can hold it for your child, if they bring it in BEFORE Tuesday.

Blue Zones and Pōmaikaʻi have partnered together for our students to organize a Walking School Bus event on Wednesday October 3rd. A Walking School Bus is a group of children walking to school under the supervision of two or more trusted adult volunteers. Each student walker & adult volunteer needs to register! Thank you! What is a walking school bus? Click below to find out. www.bluezones.com/2017/09/walking-school-buses-get-kids-moving-alert-and-ready-to-learn/ A slightly shorter version of the email I sent to you on Saturday, 9.8.18. Please let me know if you did not receive the email. I used the emails from our open house sign-in and Pomaika'i's online system.
Open House: Pictures have been posted on the Photo page. Wishlist items: I am looking for slightly used/new little toys or trinkets for our prize bucket. Students are earning "Charlie Brown" tickets for a positive action and can save them to get something from the prize bucket. I took some from my son, this includes happy meal toys, stamps, tattoos, stickers, hot wheels, erasers, etc. If you have anything- please send it with our student to class as a donation. Online passwords: For learning upgrade, fastt math, and typing club. Please check planner for when students are assigned online practice. Students can also practice more after other assignments have been completed. Please let me know if this is not possible and other arrangements can be made. I put a magnet on the back so it can be placed on your refrigerator. Sugar Plantation Field trip this Tuesday, Sept. 11. I received some green chaperone papers but also please go to http://helphawaiischools.com/custom/502/ to sign up to volunteer at Pomaika'i Elementary events/campus. PLEASE SIGN UP with Help Hawaii for this and other events. Scholastic book orders- our class code is NBRBN please go to https://clubs.scholastic.com/home and compete an online order by Monday, Sept. 10 at 5pm. I will click on submit the same night. Ordering books are optional. Our class will benefit from orders- we get books for our class too! How can you contact me? Please see contact page. Thank you for the warm welcome to Pomaika'i Elementary and for entrusting me with your child. I value communication and our relationship, please contact me at anytime of the year.
